The album of the year just dropped...

Bold statement considering its only February. I purchased the pre-order for the new Defeater and the digital download arrived in my email today. Its fucking amazing, buy it, or get on the googlez its an easy find for a quick download...

Anybody else listening to this?

i've never listened to this band cause i didnt think i'd like them. im pretty open to most music but not as open to hardcore.


now i've listened and this sounds what i thought it would sound like. not into it at all.

If this is worthy of album of the year, it's going to be a shit year

The acoustic tracks were tacky, and the non acoustic tracks were a little bit of a step back from Lost Ground

Somebody has low standards for good music... good hardcore even.

I'm diggin this quite a bit although that's probably in part to being in the middle of a Defeater binge anyway. It's got some techy parts but not wanky overall, really powerful music and it's a neat story. Preferring this to Lost Ground actually, which was kinda 50/50 on good songs to filler. And despite having a bit of a soft spot for acoustic jams I'm gonna agree that most of the ones on here are shite, which was disappointing.

We are on the same page for the most part. The story is fantastic, you can go back and read the lyrics to "Travels" and gain a sense of what's going on without even hearing the music behind it. This is a perfect follow up to "Travels" with the perspective from the other brother. I really enjoyed the acoustic tracks and thought they fit in perfectly, I understand when people listen to hardcore maybe the last thing they want to hear in the middle(or end in this case) some acoustic jams and I get that.

The music has a lot of depth, some cool parts to pick out, not just "insert generic mosh part here --->". It's the subtle touches that make this album great, everything from the artwork to the last hardcore track cutting out to silence. It's well thought out and I can't wait till my pre-order arrives with the book of photos/lyrics.

All this being said it was a bold statement and it's only February. I'm a big Defeater fan so I have a bias towards this album. There are going to be ton of releases coming out this year so we'll see how this stacks up at the end...

I really enjoy this record, at first I liked lost ground more because this record just doesn't seem as aggressive to me but now it's certainly on par...maybe edging out lost ground by a little bit. I really enjoy the acoustic tracks as well.

The acoustic/folk rock tracks are just plain mediocre.

Can't say this record is anything but pretty okayish.

i don't really listen to any bands that sound like this, but i do still like modern life is war a lot, and the last song that was posted is one of my favorite songs by them.
never even listen to them anymore but i still really like a number of their songs.
